SV WIP: Clark Kent for the Defense
Title: Clark Kent for the Defense
AU/Fandom: Clark Kent, Esquire/Smallville
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Rating: Mature (at least)
Summary: Attorney Clark Kent is drawn back into the life of his former mentor, Lex Luthor, when Lex asks Clark to defend socialite Lana Lang when she is charged with murdering Lex's ex-lover, Jason Teague's mother, Genevieve Teague. Clark finds this murder case may be related to his own mysterious past.
Lex opened one eye and stared blearily first at the phone ringing by his bed and then at the clock. Who in the hell called him at 4:00 am on the morning after one of his mother's events?
"This had better be life threatening." He growled over the phone.
"It's Jason. Mother's dead. They've arrested Lana." A familiar voice rushed over the line.
Lex nearly dropped the receiver. "Jason? Slow down. Tell me what's happened."
"Lex, please. I need your help."
"Just tell me what happened very slowly. I'll help. I promise."
"Mother was murdered in Lana's apartment sometime after she left the Gala. They have arrested Lana," Jason repeated. He went on to give Lex what few details the police had shared with him.
"Has Lana said anything?"
"Nothing. She refused to speak to the police. She wanted to see me, but she won't talk to me, either. Can you help her?"
Lex sighed. "I'll get her the best attorney I know."
"Not you?" Jason's voice rose in panic.
"I think we both know I have a conflict of interest here, Jason."
There was a slight pause.
"I know."
"Someone from the office will contact you and Lana immediately. I have to make some calls."
"You didn't ask if she did it."
"Does it matter?" Lex hung up.
There was one attorney Lex thought might be able to save Lana even if she was guilty. The problem was that Clark Kent didn't work for Lex.

This story is a bit of a departure from my more recent writing with the edginess. Not that there won't be a positive ending, but this is going to be a bumpy ride.

He's also still Kryptonian. Just not a Big Dumb Alien this time.
Thanks.

Don't worry about Lana. The whole trial's just an excuse to get Lex and Clark together.
As Lex said "Does it matter?"
